Teeth Whitening Treatments

Getting your teeth whitened is super simple, predictable and effective. Patients of all ages are having it done for lots of reasons, and some because they have been putting it off for 20 years and now it’s time.

So what are the different types of teeth whitening treatments?

Professional Teeth Whitening Treatment

For those who want a quick and cost-effective result, we have the Natural Plus In-Chair whitening procedure. There are no hard metals, totally safe and in around 60 minutes you will have a brighter smile, up to 8 shades brighter in fact, and the best bit?… The results last!

Teeth Whitening at Home

A set of moulds of your teeth are taken to make trays, which are clear, flexible mouthguards that sit comfortably over your teeth. This is where you will apply the whitening gel. For just 1 hour per day, changes are visible in approximately 3 to 14 days (results will vary from individual to individual). There is little to no sensitivity, so you can have fab, white teeth in no time.

With either of the whitening treatments it is essential you have a dental examination prior. It is not advisable to have these treatments with active gum disease or existing cavities, as this will cause pain and more damage is likely to occur to the teeth and gums.

Frequently Asked Questions on Teeth Whitening Treatments

Is teeth whitening safe?

Yes. Teeth whitening is a safe treatment, but only if you have followed the correct instructions given to you by one of our fully qualified dentists.

Are there any teeth whitening side effects?

Some temporary side effects may occur like sensitivity to hot / cold which usually subsides after stopping the treatment. Avoid drinks like coffee, wine and fizzy drinks to prevent exacerbating the sensitivity during the whitening process. These also should be avoided as they stain teeth.

There are numerous over the counter whitening products that can harm the surface of your enamel, initially making them appear whiter but in fact are damaging to their long-term health.

Does teeth whitening fix all discoloured teeth?

Generally, the more yellow or brown stained your teeth are, the better the result. The most difficult teeth to whiten are teeth with a greyish colour. Ask one of our dentists on what type of result you might be able to expect from the range of our treatment options.

How long will it take to whiten my teeth?

The In chair whitening procedure will take 60mins. It is a strong concentration of our active ingredient only allowed with professional supervision. This will give you a big lift in tooth colour right away (results vary from individual to individual). You will then continue the whitening procedure at home with your home whitening trays.

If you do not wish to do the In chair whitening but chose to do the home whitening trays treatment only, results are slower as the active ingredient is a lower concentration. A result is normally seen after 7-10 days.

Will Teeth Whitening treatment lighten my white fillings?

No. Whitening products cannot whiten existing fillings or crowns. One of our dentists will discuss with you if you need any fillings replaced after your whitening treatment.

Is Teeth Whitening safe during pregnancy or whilst breast feeding?

No.

Teeth whitening treatments are not recommended whilst pregnant or breast feeding.

Are there any teeth whitening for sensitive teeth treatments available?

A lot of research has gone into products that reduce the sensitivity and are now more accommodating to those who have sensitive teeth already. You will still get some sensitivity with all forms of teeth whitening whilst you are having treatment.

How long will teeth whitening treatment last?

Depends on diet and lifestyle as your teeth will attract the same stains as before. Typically, a home touch up is needed twice a year.
