Dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle treatments

What are dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle treatments?

Highly popular dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle treatments that are professionally administered are used to minimise fine lines, wrinkles, smoker lines, facial sagging and more.

But which one is best for you? Well, it depends on your specific needs, but both will leave you looking more youthful.

Dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle treatments are minimally-invasive cosmetic injectable treatments that are performed by our trained dentists to create the desired result in the appearance of the patient.

There is a level of confusion between the two treatments, as they’re both injectables and deal with cosmetic issues, but there is a difference between the two that we’ve laid out for you in this article.

Our Dermal Filler treatment process

Initially the first treatment for fillers requires 2-3 appointments 1 month apart to achieve the optimum look, thereafter, a top up is needed 1-2 times a year.

Dermal Fillers

What are Dermal Fillers?

As we age,…. sorry guys it happens to the best of us… we lose collagen which is the skin scaffolding of that beautiful youthful skin. In fact, by our early 20s it goes downhill, losing 1-2 % volume every year. Do the math, how much volume have you lost by 45? Scary.

Skin loses its elasticity with age causing more wrinkles, and gravity also helps to make the skin sag.

No amount of beauty products off the shelf will replace collagen  This is where dermal fillers come in. They smooth wrinkles, reduce fine lines, restore volume and hydrate the skin giving a fresher, younger appearance.

Qualities of Dermal Fillers

  • Reversable
  • Minimal side effects
  • Non-toxic and safe
  • Won’t spread within the tissues
  • Good longevity( expect results to last between 3-12 months!)

What areas can dermal fillers be used on?

It is one versatile treatment. It can be used to generally plump the face to restore volume but also for lips, cheeks, the lines either side of the nose and mouth (bunny lines), smokers lines, the crease between your eyebrows, and more.

Our consultation process

We have a consultation firstly to determine your problem, and a custom plan is drawn up for you.

With injectables, less is more, and you may feel after your first visit that nothing much has changed. To us, this is a good approach, as doing too much upfront can lead to unsatisfactory results.

Anti-wrinkle treatment

Anti-wrinkle injections

A little bit of history…

Botulinum Toxin is a natural purified protein. It has been known for its effects since circa 1817, but its cosmetic uses was stumbled on by accident around the 1980s.

It is now the most common cosmetic procedure performed in the world.

It is used widely in the reducing lines and wrinkles by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles. The protein will not stop the muscles from working but simply reduce its intensity of action. The good news? Muscles have memory, so the more often you have it, the less you actually need for the same result. So, it can be used as a preventive treatment too!

What areas can anti-wrinkle injections be used on?

The main reason Dr Suzanne started to use it was for relaxing the muscles of the face that relate to TMJ / facial pain and grinding of the teeth. Patients report a HUGE improvement in facial pain and jaw pain, and improved sleep and less headaches. This meant the pressure on the teeth was massively reduced helping to prevent cracked or worn teeth.

Other areas it can be used on are the forehead, crows feet, the line between your eyebrows, nose wrinkles or ‘bunny’ lines, and smokers lines.

Our Anti-wrinkle injections treatment process

Your first treatment will need a top up after 2 weeks to determine your optimum dose, as everyone is different. It will normally last 2-4 months before needing a top up.

What? Dentists for lip fillers and anti-wrinkle injections?

THINK ABOUT IT! Dentists have been intensely trained in head and neck anatomy and know the facial infrastructure in minute detail.

Dentists inject everyday so are naturally among the best clinicians for administering wrinkle injections and dermal fillers.

‘DID YOU KNOW… IN AUSTRALIA, A DOCTOR OR DENTIST CAN PROVIDE THE FILLER OR MUSCLE RELAXER, BUT IF A NURSE IS TO ADMINISTER THE INJECTIONS, A DOCTOR NEEDS TO ASSESS AND PRESCRIBE THE TREATMENT FIRST?

Why should I get wrinkle relaxers and fillers from my dentist?

  • Extensive training of the face muscles, nerves and blood vessels
  • They inject everyday giving local anaesthetics
  • They know how to achieve the perfect smile
  • They are good with their hands
  • Convenient! You see the dentist twice yearly for check ups so you can have a top up then, or if you are having a tooth filling you will already be numb for that.
  • The lips frame the smile. Once you have your perfect smile fixed by us, the cherry on top is to frame that smile with some hot lips! ‘Pass me my lippy!’
