Ultrasound Guidance

Chairside ultrasound, also known as ultrasonography, is a valuable tool in dento-facial injecting procedures for several reasons. While it's not as commonly used as other imaging modalities like X-rays or CT scans in dentistry, it can offer unique advantages in specific situations.

Here's how chairside ultrasound can be beneficial in dento-facial injecting:

Real-Time Visualisation:

Chairside ultrasound provides real-time imaging of soft tissues, allowing dentists to visualize anatomical structures such as muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and glands. Real-time visualisation enables precise needle placement, reducing the risk of accidental damage to vital structures.

Guidance for Injections

Dr Suzanne uses ultrasonography to guide needle placement during facial injections, especially in areas with complex anatomy or proximity to critical structures. It helps ensure accurate delivery of injectables such as dermal fillers or botulinum toxin (Botox) into targeted regions, enhancing the effectiveness and safety of the procedure.

Assessment of Soft Tissues

Ultrasonography allows for the assessment of soft tissue thickness, density, and integrity beforehand. Dr Suzanne can evaluate the condition of soft tissues, identify potential areas of concern (e.g., scar tissue, inflammation), and make informed decisions.

Patient Comfort and Safety

Utilising chairside ultrasound for dento-facial injecting can enhance patient comfort and safety by optimizing needle placement and minimizing the likelihood of adverse events. This ultrasound reduces pain, bruising, and swelling post-procedure when injections are guided by real-time ultrasound imaging.

While chairside ultrasound offers several benefits in dento-facial injecting, it's essential to note that not all facial injecting practices routinely use it. We at Bayside Family Dentistry see it as fundamental to offer this service to our patients to ensure maximum safe injecting procedures for the highest patient care.
